The RTC-TH ceased operations in Thailand (Fall 2014). Applied Geography for Sustainable Living (shortened to Applied Geography or AppGeog) has taken responsibility for the website. The Neighborhoodlink agreed to make the RTC-TH files to be accessible for use. To do this, AppGeog must use the old URL of the RTC-TH.

AppGeog is an informal, all-volunteer ad hoc organization. No one gets paid. The participants fund all projects. Everyone passionately believes in what we are doing. We put our money where our mouths are. Getting government and grant money takes time and effort from serving the people. We are not bureaucrats and do not want to be. We have some sponsors. They pay for some subscriptions and memberships. Others will buy equipment and supplies. We appreciate their generosity. Please email us if you would like to be a sponsor.

Governments and financial groups define poverty using money. AppGeog views poverty and sustainable living holistically (i.e., as an integration of quantitative and qualitative factors). For example, we use C-bE to do student community service projects. The activities match school curricula. The tangible project results prove student competency. There is no need for written exams. The project ideas originate from the community and students. AppGeog and its volunteers create the lessons. We consider the local economy and job market. This way the lessons are academically and vocationally relevant locally. The C-bE goals are to improve education, community preparedness, resilience, and the local economy.

AppGeog uses a no-cost/low-cost, no-tech/low-tech appropriate adaptive approach. This reduces project costs. It makes it easier to replicate a project in other communities. AppGeog is flexible. It can adapt its C-bE to the community’s needs. Our primary areas of interest are education, the environment, and emergency preparedness.

AppGeog collaborates with the Grassroots Emergency Communications Operations (GECO), and the Wanderers Amateur Radio Club (WARC). They provide technical input for emergency preparedness (EmPrep) and emergency communications (EmComm).
