Presidents note:  January 2015  -  Greetings to you and your family and peace to you as we charge headlong into the new year of challenging and exciting possibilities.

My wife Betsy and I have lived in our home at 7208 Ellis Rd for over 30 years.  Our daughter Rebecca, son-in-law, Lance and two beautiful, (I may be a little biased here) grandchildren, Ashleigh 5 and Logan 2 live in Dallas.  I am a retired Geologist and my wife is a retired Presbyterian Minister.  Betsy, far from retired, has just begun her 6th interim pastorate.  I retired from Mobil in 1993 but went on to teach Science at three Charter Schools for another eight years.  The last was at the home of the Texas Boys Choir.  I have held positions of photographer in the US Navy, (1968 -72) and at the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art.

Recently I was asked what I liked best about Ryanwood and I said the trees and the people.  Well, in 30 some years the trees and the neighborhood have matured and so have I, mostly for the best, and now I find myself in a wonderful and unexpected role as your President.  I have been your Treasurer for 4 years, but mostly out of view, because of my commitment to the Congregational Care Committee at First Presbyterian Church. Now, I am excited to turn my energy toward my neighborhood affiliation and to get to know each and every one of you as together we view our neighborhood with a new perspective, aimed toward making it the very best it can be.

We have fundamental challenges.  We need to increase our membership, reduce our expenses and increase our income.  The Board and especially the RNA officers will be working hard this year to reverse these trends and it is my hope that I will be able to lift up these improvements with you in our report at the Christmas Party in December.  The key is increasing our membership, so I encourage you to invite a neighbor to an RNA meeting.  That neighbor could be new to the area, someone who was once a member of RNA and has been inactive, a neighbor next door or across the street that you’ve noticed but never made a point to speak to.  See you, and a friend, at the next General meeting.

Best, Glenn
