Guests: 13th District Metro Councilman Ron Weston, Administrative Assistant Steve Clark

We had invited Ron to this meeting to express our concerns about the prospect of Pull-a-Part Salvage Company's getting a conditional use permit to locate on 25 acres across from the Senior House on National Turnpike and to advise us on what we can do to inform BOZA and others of our opposition.

There is to be a second public meeting before the company files for the conditional use permit; then BOZA will hold a public hearing at which time those in opposition may meet and voice their concerns. In the meantime, if we want to inform BOZA members or city officials of our opposition, we should e-mail them, giving our reasons for opposition.

We oppose Pull-a-Part on the basis of incompatibility, traffic load, lack of significant number of jobs being generated by this business, our district's already having 6 salvage yards, and this business's not really enhancing the quality of life in our district.

City officials to contact: Charles Cash - Planning and Design; Bruce Traughber - Business Development; and David Rhodes - BOZA member.

Ron also informed us that any concerns about the highway project on National Turnpike and its obligation to repair or replace damages to the Sam entrance should be directed to state representatives Perry Clark, Dan Seum, Larry Saunders, or Larry Clark.

In response to a concern Carol Kidd expressed about the strip mall on New Venture, Ron agreed to inform an inspector who will investigate reports of underage sale of tobacco products, the firing of guns, etc. Major Robinson and Lt. Despain of our Metro Police will also be contacted by Ron.


The Minutes for June were read and approved, as was the Treasurer's Report, which showed a bank balance of $43, 245.29 as of June 24, 32004. Our last street sweep was June 3.

Old Business:

Streetlights - Tim reports that the delay on the 30 new lights is due to LG&E's being out of the coach lamps we will be using - not the poles. These are on their way from New England.

Wall lights - Tim was given approval to replace the 2 wall lights at the Sam entrance with vandal-resistant lights.

Fences - Dennis moved and Bob seconded that we have either Raatz Fence Company or any other fence company that gives us a price equal to or less than Raatz's $1200 price to have a residential grade chain link fence put along the west section of the back lake. The motion passed.

Trees - Linda moved and Vicki seconded that we use Matt Nally's Operation Brigtside landscaper to put in 15 mixed variety trees around the lake to help slow erosion. Matt also agreed to help us in the future with putting rock along the shore where needed. Motion passed. Linda, Dennis, Tim, and Mark will help decide where we want these fifteen trees placed.

Vandalism - No further reports of vandalism have been made since our June newsletter., and police have been visible 12:00 a.m. and later.

Lake rocking - MSD has been adding rock to the south outlet and shore of the front lake. MSD has agreed to add rock to other sections where needed.

Memorial trees - Vicki reports that no one has offered to purchase a memory tree except Tim. This offer still stands. Cost - $250.

New Business:

Carol's concerns about the strip mall, which Ron agreed to address.
