No, but I love my own money
I think this is a counter productive move in an election year to buy votes for the Republican party so it doesn't give the appearance that they ruined the economy. $1200-1800 is not going to make the world go round, not going to make people buy American. I do appreciate getting to keep some of my hard earned cash. Don't ever let them tell you this is a gift or bail out, this is our money, they just chose to not collect it.
China will see a spike in profits in May and June as a matter of fact, from the purchase of $1200 HDTV's made, guess where? I also suspect China made products will be put on sale at this time to encourage this behavior.
If people got the money with the stipulation that they only buy American products it would definitely help the US economy. Trade deficits are killing the US. We can't sell anything to anyone right now. We don't manufacture anything that anyone wants that you can't buy for less from Mexico or China.
I'm as guilty as anyone in this category. Why pay more? They sell a good product for less money. If I can buy a Honda or a Ford for the same price, guess which one I'll buy. Ford and Chevy make a lot of crappy cars. I own a 3 year old chevy with a failing transmission. My friend owns a 20 year old Honda with the original transmission and engine going strong at 200,000+ miles.
