  • Chris Nevitt’s Office update (Valerie Kerns)

Valerie reported that about 2500 people attended the concert on Ruby hill first week in July and the Festival park gala the night before raised 20,000 bring the total to 3 million with only 1 million needed to proceed with transforming Ruby hill into concert venue by 2016.  The maximum capacity for the venue is estimated at 7,500.

  • Trash talk with Ronnie Crawford

Mara attended the monthly meeting with Ronnie which included working on the forecast  for the next 9 months.  Brainstorming is continuing on how best to roll out the new trash container system.  We (Overland neighborhood) are moving up in the queue since we reported having more problems than other neighborhoods with the current dumpsters.  Currently scheduled for November 2014.  The plan is to start with 2 bins – trash and recycle for a few weeks then will add compost bin.  Please visit the website www.denvergov.org/solidwasteplan for an overview for the plans up to 2020.  Any concerns should be addressed directly to them.

  • Sprouts on Mississippi update (Kay Stallworthy and Kim Tatsch)

Kay and Kim from Cadence Capital Investments reported on the up and coming Sprouts grocery store planned for just south of the Gates parking garage on Mississippi between Lincoln and Sherman Ave.  Timeline currently scheduled for October 2015 opening.

Denver is sprouts 2 nd best area after So California and designed as a walkable grocery store.

Evans Bridge Beautify (EBB) update (Mara)

Mara gave an update on the proposal submitted to the PS you are here grant.  Although we were not chosen this time, Mara feels their response was positive in that they liked our project and suggested that we apply for funding with the Urban Arts Fund.  We were given a contact to follow up with.  Mara wants to plan for a meeting with the contact and further discuss with the people on the grant committee to try to get more information from them on the best way to proceed.  It is our intention to continue to pursue the beautification of the Evans Bridge.

Ronnie thanked Paul for helping with the mowing at Overland Pond.  A little work goes a long way with keeping the weeds down in that area.

Jack Unruh proposed that we come up with something for the neighborhood to do for Denver Days.  It was discussed and decided to organize a Walkability march from the Light Rail station over the Evans bridge to Pasquinel’s Landing to further bring visibility to the remaining challenges for pedestrians trying to navigate from one side of Overland neighborhood to the other.  Jack planned to organize this for the weekend of August 9 th .

Meeting adjourned at 7:44 pm.

Next neighborhood meeting will be on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at 6:30 pm at John Collins Church, 2320 South Bannock Come join us and find out what is happening in our neighborhood. Also, check us out and Like us on Facebook.
