The map to your left shows the street boundaries of our Neighborhood Crime Watch Program. Buckingham to the south, Sam Houston to the west Homestead Pl. to the North and Garland Rd. to the East. Most homes located within our Crime Watch area, were built as a part of Northstar West Estates Edition - FYI...Garland Road USED TO BE CALLED Northstar up until the mid 1980'S, in case you are curious about where the Northstar West name came from! The homes located on Homestead, fall into the Holiday Homes Edition but, are part of the Beat 9 Crime Watch area.

Just some TRIVIA....

Long Before our Neighborhood Crime Watch Program started, the land that our homes are built on belonged, for the most part, to cotten farmers. For that matter, fields of cotten were well within sight as rescent as the late 60's and early 70's from residents homes on Old Mill Run and Garland Road.

By the late 70's, the land just to the west of Holford Park that is now Oakridge, was just an overgrown field, with Duck Creek running through the area and a small golf course (that was a great place to ride a dirt bike)...that is, if you didn't mind the 4 foot tall "volunteer crop" of wheat (or some grain product) hitting you in the face as you rode along.

By the mid 70's, homes in our neighborhood were being sold for around $35,000. By 1979, those same homes were selling for around $60,000+ with an average interest rate at that time of between 14%-16% on a 30 year loan. (no research required for this account, just personal experience.)

Neighborhood Crime Watch Program...the early years...

The "Neighborhood Crime Watch" as we know it today, originated in the north east in the late 1980's and eventually spread throughout the United States making it National Organization. In 1992, the Garland PD introduced the Neighborhood Crime Watch Program to the residents of Garland in attempt to increase awareness and improve communications between the GarlandPD and the residents of Garland.
