Mt. Tabor Neighborhood Association

Panel to address infill development

Mar 03, 2004

By Diane Redd

The Mt. Tabor neighborhood association will offer an informational evening for area residents to learn about infill development on Wednesday, April 7, 7?–9 p.m. at the chapel of the Western Seminary, 55th & Hawthorne. Many neighbors are concerned about development occurring in the neighborhood and want to know how citizens can influence the building planned by developers. The moderated panel discussion will include a representative of the city?’s planning or development services departments, a land use attorney, a local developer, a concerned neighbor, and the MTNA land use coordinator. Each member of the panel will be speak on a designated topic for five to eight minutes. Paul Leistner, former MTNA president, will open the floor to questions and discussions. Slides of current development projects will be used by panel members to illustrate their points.

MTNA is organizing this program because every month new development angers another set of neighbors. Neighbors ask MTNA the same questions repeatedly, so we hope to offer basic information that will help neighbors react to development in effective, constructive ways. In addition, if some community action is called for by those affected by development, MTNA would like to know how to facilitate it in a positive manner.
