There are 2 topics to quickly update you on. The first is related to the garage sale, and the other is related to the Franklin Estates expansion project.

Garage Sale

For those of you who were eagerly checking your Pennysaver yesterday for our ad, they mistakenly placed our ad in last Wednesday's (6/29)edition. The date was correct, but just run a week early. The Franks family of Mt. Vernon and the Macurdys of Jefferson are placing additional signs throughout the community, and the Pennysaver is placing the ad on their website at no charge. Additionally, Pennysaver will grant us a free ad for our next garage sale in the event that our turnout is not what's expected due to their error. However, we are forging on! The weather is going to be great (hopefully), it's been advertised, signs have been/will be posted and we're ready to go on as planned!

Franklin Estates Expansion

At last night's Council meeting, approval for the advertisement of ordinances related to the Franklin Estates expansion was granted. It should take about 2 weeks, then the actual approval of ordinances will take place, most likely at the next Council meeting. So, all should start to take shape and construction should begin soon. The "tot lot" play area will be about 1.16 acres of land, with play equipment, a parking area and a restroom.

The area of about 36.7 acres of land between Lexington and Jefferson Streets will remain designated as protected parkland. An emergency access road will be placed in the "new" section of Mt Vernon that will connect onto Kohosek which leads to Route 22. The emergency-only road will be a 6 inch thick aggregate stone w/ fabric so that dirt doesn't come through the stone. The expansion of Mt. Vernon includes 17 building lots for upscale homes, along with 1 estate lot off of the Lexington cul-de-sac.

Again, we can't thank Mayor Somers and Solveig Peters enough for their efforts. Knowing that expansion was inevitable, this appears to be the best solution that meets the majority of our residents' desires.
