The city of Phoenix has put into place certain restrictions on parking vehicles in specific areas, per Phoenix City Code 36-134. Most people are aware of some of the more common, no-parking areas such as inside intersections, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, where the curb is painted red, etc.

A lot of people aren?’t aware that parking on the sidewalk is also restricted under the same city code. This means if you park your vehicle on the street and your tires are on any portion of the sidewalk, you are violating this city code and can be given a parking ticket. Also, if you are parked in a driveway and any part of your vehicle is sticking out over the sidewalk, you are also violating this code and can be given a ticket.

The exception is stated in the first paragraph of the city code:

?“No person shall stop. stand or park a vehicle, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with law or the directions of a police officer or traffic control device...?”

So be considerate of pedestrians and save yourself some money at the same time by not parking on any part of a sidewalk. . . ☻
