Washington Park East Neighborhood Association

Mar 2002 - Summary Proceedings of January 16th WPENA Meeting

Mar 12, 2002

Mike Michalek from the Office of the Office of Emergency Preparedness spoke to us and answered questions on emergency preparedness. He described how the OEP trains staff for emergency situations, how services are coordinated, and which agencies respond first in what kinds of emergencies.

Dick Bjurstrom updated us on the TREX project. The target completion date is September 2006. The Steele Street Bridge will be rebuilt by August of 2002; in the interim, a pedestrian bridge is being installed. Dick stated that although various neighborhood associations, including WPENA, supported asphalt instead of concrete as the road surface material for ?“the narrows?”, concrete will be the material used. Input is still possible on the design of the sound walls. Stop by Wild Oats Market to see the proposed wall designs.
