Portland Now Emergency Preparedness Planning Committee

Notes

Present: John Barrow, Dedra DeBerry, Donna Jefferson, Melissa Schreck (External Affairs U of L), and Mary Turner.
Absent: Donald Franz, Evelyn Franz, Dorothy Montgomery, Mary McCoy, Judy Schroeder, Wendy Fuson, Karel Kinnett, Rita Hayes, Bobby Hickey, Marty Jansing, David Worrall, and Benjamin Baggett.

Dedra introduced Melissa Schreck from U of L. She will be working with us on this plan.

Melissa, will ask others from U of L to participate in this planning process.
Melissa will participate in getting this plan completed as part of this committee.

Ideas:
Get folks from Portland Plaza to be our “Phone Tree” people
Have a presence at the Portland Festival in June have short surveys available do find out how much people think about being prepared, if they fill out one then they will receive a ticket for a drawing.
Have a presence at the Portland Now neighborhood forum do the same thing as above for the forum.
Schedule a workshop in July with several agencies to attend.
Contact WLKY-32 about sponsoring a weather radio prize at the drawing.
Find other sponsors for other things.
Have some print material for folks to take with them.
Melissa thinks there may be items at her office that can be used, such as hand sanitizers, backpack safety kits etc…
Check about U of L students doing door-to-door surveys.

Portland Festival June 7th
Saturday workshop July 12th

Melissa will check with Jim McKinney of EMA to see if he can attend the next meeting instead of March 28th.

Next meeting of PNEPP is Thursday, April 3rd at Portland Plaza at 6:30.
